Ward Ellinger Gallery Presents Popular Local Artist Wendy Carr
Ward
Ellinger Gallery on 39 Baltimore Avenue, is proud to present the eclectic works
of Wendy Carr on Saturday, July 5–31. Artists' opening will be held Saturday
July 5, 5-8 p.m. This exhibit will include abstract paintings, sculptural steel
chairs, mixed media combines and box constructions. The works of local abstract
expressionist Ward Ellinger will also be on display. A second opportunity to
meet the artists presents itself on Saturday July 12, 6-9 p.m. for the MOSAIC
second Saturday destination Art Walk.
Originally from Annapolis, now long time resident of Rehoboth Beach, Wendy Carr
has won a number of prominent art competitions. She has received recognition and
praise for the originality and sheer presence of her work from prominent
curators and critics alike. Carr was awarded grants from the National Endowment
of the Arts and the DC Commission of the Arts and Humanities.
Carr's
work has often been featured in one-woman shows in Washington, Philadelphia, and
New York galleries. Her art has appeared in Architectural Digest, Southern
Living, Delaware Today, the Washington Post, the New York Times and other
publications.
Carr's
current work is a departure from her previous disciplines. She creates roughly
constructed combine boxes, each expressing an intimate story – in both words and
images. Each profound assemblage is created from found objects. "I feel that
these little 'stories' I create serve to question our ideals of beauty and
worth." Carr explains, "They are strangely and curiously elegant pieces
showcasing disregarded 'gems' found in everyday life and illustrate that art
truly imitates life."
The
opening preview party is Saturday, July 5, 5-8 p.m. at the Ward Ellinger Gallery
at 39 Baltimore Avenue, located next to Camp Rehoboth. The show runs July 5–31,
with a second Saturday opening on July 12, 6-9 p.m. For more information about
