BIOGRAPHY
"Born
in Staunton Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley, I started
painting at the early age of 7, using crushed berries to
stain scraps of paper and wood.
My inspiration
in art comes from the beauty of simple forms, color
combinations, and the spontaneous fluidity within nature. I
am fascinated by both the simplicity and complexity of
colors and the intrinsic beauty created when different
colors are positioned together. It is the balance between
grace and strength that I strive for in my work. The process
of creating is a magical and spiritual journey for me.
The designs of
my current works have evolved from experimenting with
different mediums, and adding my expressions of movement,
whimsy, color and simplicity. Enamored by the unique
formations that oils and acrylics can provide, I use strong
colors to create a technique that is never duplicated in the
patterns that emerge. My work requires multiple layers of
color in order to maintain the vivid contrast between
interior and exterior surfaces.
Abstract
Expressionism allows me to experiment with contrasting
colors, depths, textures and planes of light. The effects of
these are visually interpretive. I am motivated by the
never-ending search for just the right color in the perfect
proportions, and by the profound appreciation that people
have for my work." |
